I got goose bumps: Sen. Barack Obama's Speech

January 26, 2008

I tend toward libertarian politics with a healthy dose of common sense. So, in Canada, most would classify me to the right of the political spectrum. Where that would place me in the USA, is not clear. However, I just viewed Sen. Barack Obama's South Carolina Primary victory speech, "Ready to believe again". It truly gave me goose bumps. I have followed politics all my life - well OK since I was 13. In that time I have never witnessed such an emotional stirring speech. Sure I have heard recordings and read speeches which were greater and with more historical relevance, but I have never been witness to them. Sen. Obama's speech was moving and riveting even for a foreigner like me and I would say even from someone on the other side of the political spectrum.

I am not saying people should vote for him or not, and as a Canadian my opinion on it is irrelevant. I just think - talking as an outsider I know - that it was a brilliant speech that may have bridged the political, religious, and racial spectrum in the USA. Something I was not sure was possible anymore.

Watch the speech here.
