A day in the life when I'm not at home

March 17, 2008

I got back home from close to 3 weeks of travel. My wife, Mandy was collapsed in bed. I said I was happy to be home after all the travel. I was exhausted and needed rest.

Then I asked, "How was your week, Hon?"

"...grumble." (Turns over).

I get up this morning. Once again ask how the week went.

"Read My Blog." (Sips coffee)

OK...

Anyone got some ideas on how I might get out of this dog house I have found my self in?

We have a 2 year old and a second on the way... there were a few times during those sleepless nights when I wondered out loud, why do people have kids? Is it some sort of punishment for past sins?

But watching our little guy grow up is one of life's incredible miracles that erases those frustrating, tiring and stressful moments.

One of the best sayings I heard/read that helps keep things in perspective is: "The days are long, but the years are short."

Even with all sorts of work responsibilities, I try my best to spend as much time with my son because in the blink of an eye, they are all grown up.

As for getting out of the doghouse... what's worked for me is a nice, long, enjoyable dinner. My preferred restaurant here in Toronto is Splendido, where the food is unbelievable and the service is impeccable. Makes my wife feel like a million bucks!

A great dinner usually does the trick

Hi Gabriel,

Totally hear you about taking the time to be present with the kids as they grow up. Thanks for the note.

Splendido! Wonderful. I've been there myself when I lived in Toronto. In Vancouver, my wife loves West or Vij's. I love the idea of a restaurant - it's a treat for me, too!
