Bitpass shuts down is Mperia next?

January 21, 2007

Micropayments company Bitpass has shut its doors. I met these guys at Under the Radar, and although I only talked to them for a few minutes, I really thought they were genuine group of people. I actually made it a point to meet them at the event to ask them about Mperia, an indie music site that competed somewhat with Project Opus.

I learned that Mperia was set up to show how Bitpass worked rather than as an actual music community business. Which made me wonder why they hadn't approached other music communities, like us, first. We for instance, unaware of bitpass, actuall re-invented many of the features in bitpass - as I learned - for our credit system to work with Paypal.

That was a serious investment I could have done without, and would have gladly passed off. Though in hindsight that may have been a blessing in disguise, considering they are now shut down. I checked out Mperia, and it is still running for now.

Anyway, I liked these guys, and had planned to talk with them in the future about working together. I wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
