Distributing AdSense Revenue to a Community

June 12, 2006

Today Project Opus introduced Shareback: Ads. Previously, Project Opus did not offer any ads on user profile and content pages. It didn't seem fair or right to generate revenue from another's contribution without having a mechanism in place for compensating the contributor.

In the absence of a Google API, we spent considerable time reverse engineering how ad revenue is generated from Google AdSense so that we can properly distribute revenue to our community.

As John Battelle reported, it now it appears there may be a Google API coming down the pipe for community distribution of ad revenue. Perhaps a bit late ;) but this is the right direction to be going for all user generated content sites. We look forward to the Google API, when it's released. Anyone from Google interested in what we are doing please contact us.

Shareback: Ads represents the first product from a suite of technologies under the Shareback™ brand that we are developing to help you generate and account for income derived from self-publishing. There is a lot more coming so stay tuned.
