Friends and Neighbours, Let's Take a Chance on Democracy

May 16, 2005

Tomorrow British Columbians will be voting for a new Provincial Government. Liberal, NDP, or Green I hope everyone who can vote does vote. The steady decline of voter turn out for Canadian elections across our country is disturbing. It is a truth in history that rarely are freedoms taken away - they are given away. So do you part, and get out and vote. It's important.

On that note I want to encourage voters to consider voting for the proposed new voting system Single Transferable Vote (STV) to replace our first by the post system. Four reasons I think we should support this system.
1. The process that recommend the STV was inclusive and transparent.
2. The system should lead to more coalition building rather than the continued polarization of politics.
3. The system is democratic. Empowering voters is a good thing.
4. Individual MPs will have more accountability to their constituency. Empowering MPs is a good thing.
